Mission statement

Harvest Middle School models a culture of respect and responsibility, provides students equal access to challenging curriculum, and produces knowledgeable, inquisitive, technologically literate, physically active and internationally-minded young citizens.

School HIstory

Harvest Middle School proudly opened its doors to its first group of 6th-8th graders on August 20, 2003. An enthusiastic and dedicated collaboration of district staff, teachers, administrators and construction crews came together to revive and renovate the campus (formerly the Ridgeview Middle School campus--Home of the Rebels from 1954-1981). In 2013, Harvest was awarded a one-million dollar federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant which has allowed our school, over the course of three years, the unique opportunity and significant funding to transform Harvest into an officially authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering the IB Middle Years Program.

About Harvest

About Our School

Harvest Middle School provides Napa Valley Unified School District students a unique educational experience through our International Baccalaureate and Dual Language magnet programs. Our mission is to model a culture of respect and responsibility, provide students equal access to challenging curriculum, and produce knowledgeable, inquisitive, technologically literate, physically active and internationally-minded young citizens.

Harvest’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program is an accredited, educational program found in over 4000 schools in 147 countries throughout the world. IB schools use a student-centered, inquiry-based framework for teaching and learning.  All IB schools center on the IB Learner Profile Traits which aims to develop students who are balanced, caring, communicators, inquirers, knowledgeable, open-minded, principled, reflective, risk-takers and thinkers. HMS students take courses in eight interconnected IB subjects areas including: Math, Language and Literature, Individuals and Society (History), Science, Physical Education, Language Acquisition (Spanish), Performing/Visual Arts, and Design Cycle. IB students are educated to be open-minded toward international perspectives and are encouraged to take local and global action with their learning--this is especially the case in the culminating 8th grade IB Community Project (to begin 2016-2017 school year).

Additionally, Harvest’s Dual Language program allows HMS students an opportunity to develop language acquisition skills in two languages--English and Spanish. All HMS IB students take three years of Language Acquisition (Spanish), according to their level of proficiency. Students dually enrolled in the International Spanish Academy (ISA) dual immersion program take two IB courses in Spanish: Language Acquisition and Individuals and Societies. The ISA dual immersion program is a pathway for students to obtain their official seal of biliteracy on their diploma upon graduating high school.

As a the only magnet middle school and IB/Dual Language option in the Napa Valley, Harvest presents students high quality instruction through the IB/Dual Language programs that promotes choice, equity, diversity and academic excellence for all students. While NVUSD students are assigned to a school based on their home address within district established attendance areas, students outside of Harvest’s neighborhood boundaries may open-enroll based on space availability through a lottery system for admission. During the district NVUSD Open-Enrollment window in the fall, prospective families are welcome to attend HMS an information session and take a school tour to see the innovative programs at HMS in action.

Harvest has over a decade’s worth of alumni who have graced our halls and have gone forth to do incredible things in our community and world. Our entire faculty and staff are dedicated to cultivating our learners for academic excellence in a global society. Harvest’s history is rich, and the future definitely looks bright for the Home of the IB Hawks--one of Napa’s premier middle schools!
